A history infused with the flavors of international guest stars, Festival Ballet Theatre celebrates 20 years of dance in Orange County through a gala tribute featuring its company dancers, world-renowned guest artists from American Ballet Theatre and San Francisco Ballet, children of Southland Ballet Academy, and special guests from the Upper Division of the Royal Ballet School (UK).
Performed in the intimate setting of Irvine Barclay Theatre, program highlights include a varied repertory of classical and contemporary ballet. Premiers & Repertoire
Festival Ballet Theatre's 20th anniversary season kicked off with a showcase of company premieres. A varied repertoire of contemporary ballets by the nation's most sought-after choreographers includes the workd premiere of Brian Reeder's percussive neo-classical ode to the joy of movement, Paisiello Variations, as well as newly commissioned works by Melissa Barak and Lillian Barbeito.
This opening program of the 2008-2009 season also boasts Molly Lynch’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a bold updated rendition of Shakespeare’s enchanting classic… complete with Puck magically soaring high above the stage!Guest artists include Karine Plantadit and Ian Carney, principal dancers from the Broadway musical Movin' Out, in Twyla Tharp's Shameless.
